Fukushima: possible écoulement d’eau radioactive d’un réservoir souterrain
TOKYO – La compagnie gérante de la centrale accidentée de Fukushima a fait état dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi d’un possible écoulement d’eau contaminée dans le sol depuis un réservoir de stockage souterrain.
Tepco évalue à 120 tonnes environ la quantité de liquide contaminé qui aurait fui.
Des éléments radioactifs ont été décelés dans de l’eau accumulée entre le sol autour de la cuve et la couche externe d’un revêtement imperméable au fond du réservoir, a expliqué un porte-parole de Tepco lors d’une conférence de presse nocturne.
La cuve enterrée comprend trois couches censées empêcher l’eau de s’infiltrer dans le sol.
Le réservoir (de 60 mètres sur 53 m et d’une profondeur de 6 m) est situé à 800 mètres environ de l’océan et Tepco juge peu probable que l’eau radioactive puisse s’y écouler.
Pour remédier à cette situation, Tepco a commencé samedi matin à transvaser à l’aide de pompes les 13.000 tonnes d’eau du réservoir 2 défectueux vers un autre.
Les incidents se multiplient ces dernières semaines à la centrale Fukushima Daiichi mise en péril par le séisme et le tsunami du 11 mars 2011.
Vendredi, Tepco avait rapporté une interruption du système de refroidissement de la piscine de désactivation du combustible usé du réacteur 3, une avarie vraisemblablement provoquée par des travaux pour empêcher une récidive d’une grave panne d’électricité survenue les 18 et 19 mars.
Un rat avait alors fait jonction entre deux connecteurs électriques et causé un court circuit dans les distributeurs de courant qui alimentent plusieurs systèmes de refroidissement des piscines de désactivation des assemblages de combustible usé.
Cette semaine, plusieurs autres incidents se sont produits, à cause notamment d’erreurs de manipulation d’équipements, les travailleurs oeuvrant à l’extérieur dans des conditions très difficiles, en combinaisons de protection et masques intégraux.
Beaucoup des moyens techniques provisoires mis en place sur le site pour éviter le pire lors de la phase aiguë de la crise sont en outre encore en service et sont de fait très vulnérables.
La situation de la centrale de Fukushima est considérée comme stabilisée depuis décembre 2011, mais le site reste très fragile, notamment en cas de nouveau séisme et tsunami.
